SAN FRANCISCO -- Greg Anderson, Barry Bonds' former personal trainer, was ordered to prison by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston on Tuesday for his refusal to testify in Bonds' perjury trial.

According to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area's Matt Morrison, who is present in the courtroom, Anderson said he would not testify and Illston responded, "I wish you would change your mind."

Illston then added: "If you do change your mind, let someone know as soon as possible."

One of Anderson's attorneys, Mark Geragos, continued to argue on his client's behalf, presenting the judge with a precedent that he hoped would nullify the judge's ruling.

Despite Geragos' motion, Anderson was taken into custody by marshalls.

It was the third time Anderson was found in contempt of court for his refusal to testify.

Prosecutors allege Anderson provided Bonds with performance-enhancing drugs and detailed instructions on how to use them. His refusal to testify has undercut a significant portion of the government's case against Bonds because the judge has ruled much of the evidence tied to Anderson is off limits.

On July 5, 2006, Anderson was found in contempt by U.S. District Judge William Alsup for refusing to testify before a federal grand jury. Anderson was immediately sent to the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin. Anderson was released on July 20 following the expiration of the grand jury's term.

On August 28, Anderson was again found in contempt of court and sent to federal prison, where he remained until Nov. 15, 2007. Anderson's release came hours after Bond was indicted on four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice.
