CSNBayArea.comSAN JOSE -- Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said Monday he expects captain Joe Thornton to play in Game 5 on Tuesday in Vancouver.

McLellan updated Thornton's status at San Jose's morning skate.

When Joe Thornton comes to you and tells you hes playing, hes playing," McLellan told the Sharks' official website. I think its important that he plays the game. I think youll see a very good Joe Thornton.

Thornton left Game 4 on Sunday against Vancouver with just under 11 minutes remaining following a crushing shoulder-to-shoulder hit from Raffi Torres.

Thornton was able to leave the ice under his own power, but later went to the San Jose dressing room and did not return. He was not made available to the media.

The Sharks captain was not on the ice in San Jose for the team's optional practice. The Sharks depart for Vancouver at 2 p.m. PST on Monday.

Joes a warrior, Logan Couture said. He plays through a lot. He plays hurt all of the time. Hes a great player. Im sure hell be good tomorrow.
