There is no evidence of the "preventative" surgical procedure that Kaepernick underwent shortly after the 49ers traded up to select him in the second round of the draft. Kaepernick wrote on Twitter that he moved to the Bay Area "for good" on Tuesday. We know Kaepernick will be competing for playing time when it's time to play football. We also know that Smith intends to re-sign with the 49ers after the lockout is lifted. It was coach Jim Harbaugh's "strong belief" that Smith will be back with the 49ers that prompted him to give Smith a copy of the 49ers' playbook when the lockout briefly lifted on April 29.Harbaugh has presented Smith with bouquets -- figuratively and literally. He has spoken very highly of Smith and expressed his desire for Smith to be back with the 49ers. Harbaugh also delivered flowers to the hospital when Smith's wife gave birth to the couple's first child.MAIOCCO: Smith proving 49ers' offseason leader
Carr's future with the 49ers, however, is uncertain. Carr was the No. 3 quarterback on the roster last season behind Alex Smith and Troy Smith, who started six games. The 49ers declined to present Troy Smith with a contract tender, a clear indication the club has no plan to retain him.And Harbaugh has not said a word about Carr since he was hired as 49ers coach in January. When asked about Carr, Harbaugh has essentially declined comment. Carr is the only 49ers quarterback under contract. His cap value for 2011 season is scheduled to be 2.375 million.
