SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez suffered what appeared to be a severe injury to his right shoulder while attempting to make a diving play Friday night and was immediately removed from the team's game against the visiting Reds at AT&T Park.Sanchez, expected to garner All-Star consideration for being San Francisco's most consistent performer, stopped Brandon Phillips' ground ball up the middle but landed awkwardly, with both wrists tucked inward and under his chest. He stayed on the ground for several minutes, surrounded by concerned teammates, manager Bruce Bochy and head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner.Initially it seemed as though one of his wrists was injured, but replays clearly showed him saying, "It's my shoulder."Sanchez, batting .289 with a .332 on-base percentage and providing Gold Glove-caliber defense this season, has twice had his left shoulder surgically repaired, and late last season he was bothered by pain in his right shoulder that prompted an MRI exam.In Bochy's postgame press conference, he said that Sanchez has a dislocated right shoulder and will undergo an MRI on Saturday.
