Warriors draft notes: Wright on way out?

Warriors general manager Bob Myers was asked on Thursday when he started thinking that Harrison Barnes would be available when the Warriors picked at No. 7.When Portland took Damian Lillard at 6, Myers answered, with a laugh.True, the Warriors didnt know Barnes would be there for sure until Portland took Lillard, but it was a week ago when they started thinking Barnes getting to them could be a reality.Thats why Myers and owner Joe Lacob took a red-eye flight to New York on Sunday and watched separate workouts of Barnes and Connecticut center Andre Drummond.Turns out, both were available when the Warriors picked. Detroit took Drummond at No. 9.
Lacob was asked after the draft to talk about the private workouts of Barnes and Drummond. Lacob said that the one thing that jumped out about Barnes was his athleticism, and it was something that you could really appreciate up close.Lacob indicated that he believed there was a lot more to Barnes game than he was being given credit for. He said it became apparent on that trip theyd take Barnes over Drummond if both were available. And it didnt sound like that was close, by the way.As for Drummond, Lacob said he was impressed with his body, athleticism and personality. But Lacob also said that it was obvious during the workout that Drummond had a long way to go
It seems apparent the Warriors will be trying to move small forward Dorell Wright. Myers was asked about Wright on Thursday night and his status on the team, and said as far as he was concerned Wright was the returning starter.Thats also true, but right now the Warriors have too many small forwards, plain and simple. Theyve got Wright, Richard Jefferson, Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green (the No. 35 pick). Theyve also extended a qualifying offer to Brandon Rush, and he plays some small forward.Wright is the most logical one to go: Hes got just one more year on his contract, and he fell out of playing favor with coach Mark Jackson.
