NAPA -- With Hue Jackson's long-standing and purportedly strong relationship with Chad Ochocinco, the Raiders were a summer-long rumored destination for the mercurial receiver.

"I mean, it wouldn't hurt to have him," receiver Louis Murphy said Wednesday, on reporting day. "It wouldn't hurt to have Ochocinco or any of those veteran guys."

Scratch that rumor off the board, now that Ochocinco has reportedly been traded to New England. According to the Boston Herald, the Raiders were one of three teams "granted permission to trade for him, including the 49ers..."

"My son," Jackson said of Ochocinco following the opening practice of Raiders camp on Thursday. "Obviously, theres all kinds of things out there, but I do know who he is. Hes a tremendous player. I heard he signed. Im very happy for him."

Jackson worked with the former Chad Johnson as the Bengals receivers coach from 2004-06.

"I know that was probably tough for him leaving Cincinnati because what a great career he's had there and what he's meant to that city," Jackson said. "But, I know Chad will go on and do great things."

Also, linebacker Thomas Howard has reportedly agreed to sign with Cincinnati, which is also quarterback Bruce Gradkowski's destination.

Plus, a report that had the Raiders cutting guard Cooper Carlisle and cornerback Chris Johnson was erroneous as both players were on the practice field Thursday.
