Coach Jim Harbaugh gave the 49ers their first day off of training camp on Monday. It's been a different kind this summer, as NFL teams adjust to the new collective bargaining agreement that govern health and safety issues at training camp.First, teams were not allowed to practice in full pads until the third day of on-field work. Teams can no longer have two fully padded practices in the same day. In fact, players can wear helmets on the field only once a day. And teams are required to give the players a day off before working seven days in a row. Many teams are incorporating a "walk-through" into training camp as part of their four hours of allowable field time per day. With no offseason program because of the NFL lockout, there is a greater emphasis this summer on meeting time.
"Our biggest issue is overcoming the 25 practices we lost and all that meeting time, and a lot of little details haven't been covered yet with these guys through nobody's fault, not the coaches' fault, not the players' fault," 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. "We just haven't had a lot of time yet, but we'll get there."
Here is a look at the 49ers' daily work schedule in Santa Clara for training camp:6:30-8 a.m. -- Breakfast is served. Also, players who require addition treatment in the trainers' room arrive at the 49ers practice facility. This is also when players can get in their individual weight-room workouts.
8-8:30 a.m. -- Special-teams meeting.
8:30-9:30 -- Separate offensive and defensive meetings to go over playbook installations.
9:45-10:45 a.m. -- After a 15-minute break, the team heads to the practice field for a walk-through to go over what they were just taught in the meeting room.
10:45-noon -- Position groups break up into meetings.
Noon-1 p.m. -- Lunch and media obligations.
1-2 p.m. -- Final meetings to go over expectations for practice. After meetings, players get prepared for practice.
2:30-5:30 p.m. -- On field for practice. One of the interesting parts of practice is a "Make It Right" session at the end. During team period, the 49ers do no repeat plays that are not run perfectly. To keep the tempo of practice, they go on to the next play. But at the end of practice, there is a time set aside to go back over those plays.
5:30-7 p.m. -- Dinner and rest.
7-9 p.m. -- Team and group meeting time.
Until 9:30 p.m. -- Snacks are available and players can go back to the team hotel.
11 p.m. -- Curfew at the team hotel.
