The San Jose Sharks have signed veteran defenseman Brent Burns to a five-year extension, the team announced Monday.
Terms and conditions of the deal have not been announced but Comcast SportsNet has learned from a source with knowledge of the contract that the deal is for five years and 28.8 million.

The figure represents a straight 5.76 million per year, no bonus, no escalation clauses and no up front money.

Burns, acquired in a trade with Minnesota for Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and a first-round pick on June 24, posted 46 points in 80 games in 2010-11 and made the Western Conference All-Star team.We are thrilled that Brent has stepped forward and made long-term commitment to the San Jose Sharks, his new teammates and our fans, Sharks executive vice president and general manager Doug Wilson said.
