The Sharks whirlwind courtship of the Minnesota Wild continued Saturday with the acquisition of one-time first-round pick James Sheppard, a 6-2, 210-pound centerman who missed the 2011 season with a knee injury.

The Sharks sent a 2013 third-round pick to Minnesota for Sheppard, who fractured his patella in a four-wheeler accident in Colorado while doing high-altitude training with a number of other NHL players, including Sidney Crosby. He was suspended by the team due to a no-ATV riding clause listed in his contract.

Sheppard was drafted ninth overall in 2006, and played three years in Minnesota, filling in for injured players to get 78 games his first year, and then getting increased ice time in his second and third years. He has 11 career goals in 224 games.
