The NFL informed the 49ers and receiver Braylon Edwardson Tuesday that he will not face a suspension, according to the team. However, the NFL fined Edwards 50,000 for violating the NFL policy on substances of abuse, a league spokesman told CSNBayArea.com. The fine is for the driving under the influence charge to which Edwards pled guilty in July."Any other matters will be addressed at the appropriate time," the league said.General manager Trent Baalke spoke with the NFL and was assured that Edwards would not face a suspension, according to the 49ers.Edwards guilty plea resolved a case stemming from a police stop nearly a year ago. At the time of his DUI arrest, Edwards was on probation in Ohio for pleading no contest to misdemeanor aggravated disorderly conduct. The news that Edwards will be available for the season opener Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks comes as a big relief to the 49ers, who signed him to a one-year, 2.1 million contract with knowledge that he could face discipline from the NFL.Edwards and Ted Ginn Jr. are listed as co-starting receivers on the 49ers' depth chart with Josh Morgan on the other side. Michael Crabtree is expected to return to practice this week, but his availability for Sunday's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks remains in question.Crabtree was removed from the physically-unable-to-perform list last week after undergoing surgery before training camp to repair a fractured left foot.
