The NFL fined 49ers outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks 7,500 for roughing the passer, a league spokesman told CSNBayArea.com on Friday.
Brooks was fined for striking Seattle Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to the head area in the fourth quarter of the 49ers' 33-17 season-opening victory. Brooks was the only 49ers player to incur a fine in the team's season-opening game.
Free safety Madieu Williams was flagged Sunday for unnecessary roughness, but the penalty did not draw a fine from the league office. The NFL ruled that Williams' hit on Seattle tight end Anthony McCoy was not a "shoulder to the head of a defenseless receiver," as referee Jeff Triplette described it during the third quarter of Sunday's game. Replays appeared to show that Williams' shoulder struck McCoy's shoulder, enabling Williams to break up the pass.
"It was a legal hit," 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on Thursday.
