49ers did not send much pressure at Cowboys QBs

SANTA CLARA -- Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks Tony Romo and Jon Kitna combined for a passer rating of 98.2 on Sunday against the 49ers' defense, as they faced mostly four-man pass rushes.But not all four-man rushes were the same, though. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio dropped linemen and sent linebackers and defensive backs as part of his four-man pressure package. For instance, when cornerback Carlos Rogers came off the edge and hit Romo as he was throwing, it was a four-man rush.
Still, of the 44 times the Dallas quarterbacks dropped back, the 49ers sent extra pass rushers just nine times.The only play I didn't log was the 77-yard pass in overtime. That's because Romo's play-fake was so convincing, the 49ers' defense reacted as if it were a run play. There was no pass rush because everybody -- including those in the 49ers' defensive backfield believed it was a run play.The 49ers actually had success with their four-man rush, though their one quarterback sack came on a five-man pressure. Here's how Dallas quarterbacks fared against the different 49ers' pass-rushes:Three-man rush: 4 of 5 for 32 yards; 93.3 rating.
Four-man rush: 16 of 28 for 218 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs; 64.3 rating.
Five-man rush: 4 of 7 for 98 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, one sack; 141.4 rating.
Six-man rush: 1 of 2 for 7 yards; 58.3 rating.
