SANTA CLARA -- Receiver Braylon Edwards, who left the 49ers' game Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys with an injury on the third play from scrimmage, awaits the results of an MRI examination on Monday.Edwards joined Michael Crabtree on the sideline. Edwards sustained a right knee sprain while catching a 21-yard pass on the 49ers' first drive. He walked out of the Candlestick Park locker room under his own power with no noticeable limp.
Edwards' injury left the 49ers with just three healthy receivers. Crabtree (left foot) was not active for Sunday's game, but he was seen running patterns on the field prior to the game. Crabtree is expected to be available for the 49ers' game Sunday at the Cincinnati Bengals.Edwards' time frame for return is not known. When asked if the 49ers might add a receiver, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh on Monday answered, "We'll evaluate that."It appears unlikely the 49ers would add a wide receiver this week who could make any kind of immediate impact. Kyle Williams was the 49ers' third receiver. Joshua Morgan and Ted Ginn saw most of the action in two-receiver formations against the Cowboys. The 49ers did not used a four-receiver formation in either of their first two games."We're pleased with the way Kyle Williams stepped up," Harbaugh said. "He had a heck of a play on the touchdown. Heck of a throw and an outstanding catch. I'm happy for him. He didn't dress for the first game. He had an opportunity and shined. He's spot-on with his attitude and his approach to the game."The 49ers worked out free-agent receiver Donnie Avery two weeks ago. Avery, a second-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2008, missed all of 2010 with a knee injury. The Rams released him at the end of training camp. Dominique Zeigler, among the 49ers' final cuts, could also be re-signed if the 49ers feel they need to add a receiver.
