Friday night's game between the Warriors and Lakers just took on some added significance. With Stephen Curry out with a sprained right ankle, we'll get an up-close look at the Warriors' backcourt situation in general -- and the point guard position specifically. Curry was injured during Thursday's night's 120-99 preseason loss to the Lakers in San Diego. This is the final exhibition game for the Warriors, who open the regular season next Wednesday against the Rockets at Oracle Arena.Though Curry's injury is not considered to be serious, the Warriors already have depth issues in the backcourt and it will be interesting to see how coach Keith Smart will address it. We should get a pretty good clue Friday night.
Smart's most likely option without Curry would be to start Monta Ellis at point guard and then either Charlie Bell or Reggie Williams at shooting guard.

Regardless, we should get a better idea of exactly where Jeremy Lin fits in the whole scheme of things. Minus Curry, Lin would seem to have an opportunity to get some extended playing time.

At the same time, if Smart doesn't use Lin or plays him very little, it probably is an indication Lin isn't a part of the rotation. What's your take? Email Matt and let him know. He may use it in his Mailbag.
