"So far so good."Linebackers Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes played last week against the San Diego Chargers and combined for 20 tackles just four days after sustaining broken right hands. Running back Anthony Dixon was not slated to practice as he continues to receive treatment for a left ankle sprain. Dixon sustained the injury on the fourth-and-goal play early in the second quarter that was stuffed for a 2-yard loss. The swelling has been reduced, and he expects to play Sunday.Brian Westbrook typically does not practice during the week, as the 49ers like to keep him fresh.
DeShawn Wynn is the only other running back on the 49ers' 53-man roster.Linebacker rotation: With outside linebacker Travis LaBoy out for the season with a knee injury, the 49ers will rely on a rotation of three players: starters Manny Lawson and Parys Haralson, along with backup Ahmad Brooks.RELATED: Travis LaBoy done for season with knee injury
"We've gone with a three-man rotation before (last season), so I think that's what we're looking at this time around," Singletary said.Rookie Thaddeus Gibson, who has not suited up for a game this season, is not expected to see action on defense. He might be active and contribute on special teams, though.Practice squad: The 49ers added two players on their practice squad Tuesday after the promotions of defensive lineman Will Tukuafu and tight end Colin Cloherty to the active roster.
Kicker Fabrizio Scaccia and offensive lineman Dennis Landolt (Penn State). Scaccia kicked for Sacramento of the UFL this season. He is best known for kicking the longest field goal without a tee, as he nailed a 68-yarder while with the Port St. Lucie Bobcats of Florida Football Alliance in 2009.The other six members of the 49ers practice squad are: quarterback Nate Davis (Ball State), running back Xavier Omon (Northwest Missouri State), guard Nick Howell (Southern California), and wide receivers Bakari Grant (UC Davis), Kevin Jurovich (San Jose State) and Lance Long (Mississippi State).
