Programming note: Watch Thursday’s 49ers press conference with Vic Fangio, Greg Roman, Glenn Dorsey and NaVorro Bowman live on CSN Bay Area at noon and streaming live right here.

Although some opportunities have rapidly closed for 49ers assistant coaches to become head coaches, here’s is a look at what the 49ers could do to fill certain high-profile spots from within the coaching staff . . .

Offensive coordinator: Quarterbacks coach Geep Chryst, an Ivy League man who has been known to draw up plays to assist Greg Roman, is the most logical heir apparent to run the offense. He served as San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator for two seasons under Mike Riley in 1999 and 2000. Offensive line coach Mike Solari also has experience as an offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006 and ’07.

Defensive coordinator: If Vic Fangio were to leave, the best bet for a promotion is secondary coach Ed Donatell. After all, why would the 49ers twice deny opportunities for Donatell to take coordinator jobs elsewhere if they did not plan to make him coordinator if an opening were to arise? Donatell served as coordinator for a combined seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers from 2000 to '06.

Head coach: We’re just playing the what if game. But when that time comes for Jim Harbaugh to move on . . . defensive line coach Jim Tomsula is the logical choice from within the staff. Tomsula is universally respected and admired by everyone inside the building. And, plus, he is 1-0 as an NFL coach after taking over interim duties in 2010 when Mike Singletary was fired.
