SANTA CLARA – The 49ers claimed offensive lineman Michael Philipp off waivers from the Miami Dolphins. The club waived rookie quarterback Kory Faulkner to make room for Philipp.

Faulkner took part in the morning practice before the 49ers were awarded Philipp off waivers. Faulker was signed as an undrafted rookie after playing his college ball at Southern Illinois. The 49ers now have four quarterbacks on their 90-man roster: Colin Kaepernick, Blaine Gabbert, Josh Johnson and McLeod Bethel-Thompson.

Philipp (6 foot 4, 328 pound) was originally signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie. The Browns waived him following their rookie minicamp. He then signed with the Dolphins in May.

Philipp started 26 consecutive games in his final two seasons at Oregon State. He can play tackle and guard.
