Former Stanford center Chase Beeler was signed by the 49ers Tuesday, prompting the release of wide receiver Kerry Taylor.

Beeler, 23, started 32 games at Stanford after transferring from Oklahoma following his freshman season with the Sooners. He was named AP first-team All-American and first-team All-Pac-10 with the Cardinal.

The 6-3, 285-pound center was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent last July and spent time on the practice squad before being released last week.

Taylor, the nephew of former 49ers standout John Taylor, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers on in July and was released following training camp. He was then signed to New England's practice squad in September and later released. The 49ers signed him last week to their practice squad.
