SANTA CLARA – Defensive lineman Ray McDonald can continue to play with a partially torn right biceps tendon.

And the 49ers believe he should be productive without much risk of the injury worsening. He is expected to undergo surgery to repair the damage in the offseason.

“(It's) hard to predict that right now, how it’s going to affect him the entire season,” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday.

“He feels good about it. The doctors feel good about their evaluation and we’ll trust in that. But (it's) hard to predict the future on it.”

McDonald is not wearing a brace on his right arm. He was working out in the weight room Wednesday afternoon during practice. McDonald said he believes he will be available to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

In other practice notes, defensive lineman Justin Smith also was working out and not taking part in on-field work. Smith, a 13-year veteran, regularly receives days off during the course of the season.

Linebacker Patrick Willis wore full pads at practice for the first time since sustaining a groin strain Sept. 22 against the Indianapolis Colts. He is expected to be available to face the Cardinals after missing the past two games.

Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who also missed the past two games with a knee injury, was also in full pads. Even when Asomugha is healthy, Tramaine Brock will remain as the team’s No. 3 cornerback, Harbaugh indicated this week.
