UPDATE (10:30 a.m. on Friday) -- The 49ers released the following statement regarding Kilgore's arrest:
“The 49ers organization is aware of the recent matter involving Daniel Kilgore. We are monitoring the situation closely, but will reserve further comment at this time, as this is an ongoing legal matter.”
Daniel Kilgore, a 49ers backup offensive lineman who has a chance to become the starting center next season, was arrested and charged with public intoxication in his hometown last weekend.
An officer in Kingsport, Tenn., stated in his report that he stopped to speak with Kilgore and another person as they were walking on a sidewalk in the early morning hours of Sunday, according to the Kingsport Times News.
The officer stated he could smell a strong odor of alcohol on both men, who had “red eyes and dilated pupils.” The officer determined Kilgore, 26, and Brandon T. Thompson, 25, were too intoxicated to be in public “for their safety and the welfare of the public.”
Kilgore, a fifth-round draft pick of the 49ers in 2011, played in every game the past two seasons as a backup offensive lineman. He could challenge for a starting job next season with veteran Jonathan Goodwin’s return to the 49ers in question. Goodwin is scheduled to be a free agent.
