Peter Hansen, a 49ers defensive assistant the past three seasons, became the third member of the staff to leave for a promotion in the college ranks.

Stanford coach David Shaw hired Hansen to become the Cardinal’s inside linebackers coach, the school announced on Monday.

Hansen worked primarily with outside linebackers during his time with the 49ers. He spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons as a defensive assistant at Stanford, where he worked closely with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Hansen followed Fangio and Jim Harbaugh to the 49ers in 2011.

“Pete comes to us at a young age but with a tremendous wealth of knowledge,” Shaw said in a statement. “In the last three years, he’s worked with one of the best defenses in the NFL and worked with some of the best linebackers in the NFL. His perspective and energy will help our front seven.”

Tim Drevno, who worked with 49ers offensive line coach Mike Solari the past three seasons, took a job as USC’s offensive line coach and run-game coordinator. And former Washington State head coach Paul Wulff left his role as 49ers senior offensive assistant to become offensive coordinator at South Florida.
