The 49ers will be heading to Carolina in the next round of the NFC playoffs if they are able to get past the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

The New Orleans Saints, the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs, beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night to assure they will travel to No. 1 seed Seattle next Saturday.

That means the winner of the 49ers-Packers game will head to Carolina for a 10:05 a.m. game on Sunday, Jan. 12.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said he considered keeping the 49ers at a location to practice in the east if the 49ers defeated the Packers to set up a game in Charlotte, N.C., next week. However, the 49ers decided the logistics were too difficult to negotiate. So the 49ers will return to the San Francisco Bay Area immediately after Sunday's game against the Packers, win or lose.

The Saints’ victory also keeps alive the possibility that the 49ers could host one final playoff game at Candlestick Park. If the 49ers win their next two games, and the Saints beat the Seahawks, the NFC Championship game would take place Jan. 19 at Candlestick.

The 49ers are scheduled to move into Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara for the 2014 season.
