The 2013 NFL preseason is scheduled and the 49ers drew quite the intriguing matchup in Week 2 as they'll travel to Kansas City to face Alex Smith, Andy Reid and the Chiefs between Aug. 8 and 11. The 49ers open the preseason at Candlestick Park against the Denver Broncos, and will close out the exhibition season at home against the Minnesota Vikings and in San Diego against the Chargers.

The 49ers' exhibition series against the Raiders, marred by fan violence at Candlestick Park in 2011, remains on hold.

It will be the first matchup between the 49ers and Chiefs since 2003, when the 49ers authored a 24-6 victory at Arrowhead. The two teams have met for preseason action nine times, with San Francisco leading the series 6-3.

The 49ers and Broncos will meet for their 35th preseason contest, with Denver holding an 18-16 edge. Last preseason, the 49ers won 29-24.

The 49ers and Vikings are set for their eighth preseason matchup, with San Francisco claiming the last two games at Candlestick Park.

The final preseason game will mark the 27th consecutive year in which the 49ers and Chargers play exhibition football. The 49ers lead the all-time preseason series 21-20 and won convincingly last year, 35-3.

NFL teams open training camp 15 days before the exhibition opener, setting up the 49ers to report to camp in Santa Clara anywhere between July 24 and 27.
