JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The 49ers on Saturday released disgruntled veteran cornerback Shareece Wright and promoted guard Andrew Tiller from the team’s practice squad.

Tiller, whom a source told CSNBayArea.com received some repetitions with the 49ers’ first-team offense at right guard in the week leading up to Sunday night’s game, figures to be active for the game against the New York Giants.

Tiller was originally signed to the 49ers practice squad in October last season. He was promoted to the team’s active roster in December and appeared in one game last season.

Jordan Devey has played every snap for the 49ers through the first four games for the team’s struggling offense.

Wright, whom the 49ers signed to a one-year contract in the offseason, was not active for any of the 49ers’ first four games. Wright expressed his frustration in an interview two weeks ago.

“I just want to play football, man,” Wright said. “That’s all. I feel like I deserve it. I just want to play.”

Wright started all 27 games in which he appeared for the San Diego Chargers the past two seasons. He entered the NFL as the Chargers’ third-round draft pick in 2011.

The 49ers awarded Wright a $1.5 million signing bonus and envisioned him as a potential starter during the offseason. But Wright tumbled down the depth chart and was the team’s No. 5 cornerback behind starters Tramaine Brock and Kenneth Acker, and Keith Reaser and Dontae Johnson.

Wright earned $2 million from the 49ers, including $250,000 workout bonus and $50,000 for every week he was on the team’s 53-man roster. He did not collect roster bonuses of $21,875 for every week he was among the 46 players who suited up for games.
