The 49ers on Monday waived tight end Brian Leonhardt, who appeared in the final four games of the season.

Leonhardt signed with the 49ers' practice squad on Nov. 17, and was promoted to the active roster a month later after tight end Garrett Celek was placed on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain. In four games, Leonhardt caught one pass for 4 yards.

In 2014, Leonhardt appeared in 12 games with the Raiders and started three games. He caught six passes for 35 yards. He spent three weeks on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad last year before ending up with the 49ers.

Leonhardt attended Bemidji State, the aima mater of 49ers general manager Trent Baalke.
