The 49ers on Friday waived wide receiver Brandon Carswell, who sustained a torn ACL early in his only practice with the 49ers last offseason.

Shortly after signing to the team’s 90-man roster, Carswell sustained his right knee injury in a non-contact drill on June 12. The 49ers waived him shortly thereafter but he reverted back to the 49ers’ injured reserve when he went unclaimed.

As part of his “split contract,” Carswell earned $288,000 last season while on injured reserve.

Carswell, a Milpitas native, caught 40 passes for 386 yards in his four-year career at USC. He originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He spent his rookie season on the Raiders’ practice squad.
