49ers' York likely supports new Raiders stadium ‘anywhere'

League bylaws require that 24 of the NFL’s 32 owners must approve a relocation bid, such as the possibility of Mark Davis pursuing a new stadium for the Raiders in Las Vegas.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a press conference last week that even the discussion of a Raiders move to Las Vegas is “premature.”

The MMQB’s Jenny Vrentas polled five owners, posing the question, If everything lines up, would you vote to put a team in Vegas?

San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York was included in that group. He said he would likely support a new Raiders stadium – regardless of the location.

“I will wait to see, but if there is something that provides all the resources necessary, they go through all the steps and it is a project that works, I’d be supportive of the Raiders getting a new stadium anywhere,” York said.

“I know the Raiders have worked tirelessly to try to get a stadium done. It’s been difficult trying to move and have much progress in Oakland. They have been very upfront that they would like to stay, and if not, they need to make sure that they find a long-term home and long-term solution. … I think the stigma about Las Vegas is much different today than where it was in the past.”

The 49ers built Levi’s Stadium to accommodate two teams, but the Raiders have shown no interest in being tenants in Santa Clara. Davis said the 49ers’ home stadium is not what he envisions for his organization.

“I just don’t think it fits the Raiders,” Davis said in February. “I’ve said it all along, that there are three words that mean something to me regarding a stadium location. That’s ingress, egress and parking. On game day, our parking lot probably holds the largest non-denominational gathering on Sunday morning that you’ll find. I’m not going to give that up. That’s part of the Raiders in-game experience.

“I don’t believe they have that in Santa Clara. There are other things that create the 49ers game-day experience, but the Raiders have an experience of their own.”
