San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith's hearing on felony weapons and misdemeanor DUI charges has been continued to May 21 in Santa Clara Superior Court.
Smith originally pleaded not guilty to the charges in November. The illegal assault weapons charges stemmed from a June 2012 party at Smith's home in San Jose. He was arrested in September for DUI, and entered into treatment for substance abuse three days later. Smith missed five games during his voluntary leave of absence.
A plea bargain remains an option for both sides.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office is still weighing a decision on whether to formally charge Smith with a misdemeanor for making a false report of a bomb threat from an incident that occurred April 13 at Los Angeles International Aiport.
