San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was released on $20,000 bail after being booked by Los Angeles Police Department on Sunday for “false report of a bomb threat,” according to jail records.
After being taken into custody at Los Angeles International Airport, Smith was booked at 4:16 p.m. on the felony charge, which is punishable by up to one year in jail. He was released at 7:02 p.m. after posting bail.
No date has been set for a court appearance.
Smith pleaded not guilty in November to three felony counts of possessing illegal assault rifles. Investigators say they found the firearms shortly after his 2012 house party, during which he was stabbed and two others were wounded by gunfire from alleged gang members in attendance.
Smith was also arrested in September on a drunken-driving charge. His next court date in Santa Clara County Superior Court is scheduled for April 29.
