Wide receiver Jon Baldwin, whom the 49ers waived on Sunday, failed his physical with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday after the NFC North club claimed him off waivers.
Baldwin appeared in seven games last season for the 49ers and caught just three passes for 28 yards. The former Kansas City first-round draft pick caught 41 passes for 579 yards in two seasons with the Chiefs.
Baldwin did not make any impact on the practice field for the 49ers since his arrival. A knee strain limited him throughout the offseason program and training camp.
In a trade featuring two first-round disappointments last summer, the 49ers acquired Baldwin from Kansas City for wide receiver A.J. Jenkins. The No. 30 overall pick of the 2012 draft, Jenkins did not catch a pass in his one season with the 49ers.
The 49ers waived Baldwin on Sunday while claiming rookie wide receiver L'Damian Washington off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys.
