PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles have released two-time Pro Bowl linebacker DeMeco Ryans.

The move announced Wednesday saves Philadelphia $3.5 million in salary cap space. Ryans played four seasons with the Eagles after being acquired in a trade from Houston.

Ryans had 458 tackles, five sacks and five interceptions in 54 regular-season games. He was a team leader and strong presence in the locker room.

Ryans overcame rupturing his Achilles tendon midway through the 2014 season and started 13 games last year. It was the second time he suffered that injury in his 10-year career.
