Former 49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams will miss the remainder of the season with the Kansas City Chiefs with a torn knee ligament, he revealed Friday morning.

“Saddened to say I will be missing the remainder of the season due to another tear of my ACL,” Williams wrote on Twitter.

Williams sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in November of last season while with the 49ers. He returned in time to be cleared for the opening of 49ers training camp. Williams was the 49ers’ No. 2 wide receiver for the first nine games, catching 12 passes for 113 yards.

After wide receiver Mario Manningham returned to action and LaMichael James took over as the 49ers’ punt returner, the club waived Williams. He was claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs last week.

Williams saw four snaps of action on special teams in his Chiefs debut on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

It is not known how Williams sustained the injury. He was not listed on Kansas City’s injury reports on Wednesday or Thursday.

The Chiefs placed Williams on injured reserve and re-signed receiver Chad Hall, among the 49ers' final cuts this summer, to a spot on the 53-man roster.
