You have to understand that he’s a comical guy and we razz each other when we were teammates. I don’t expect anything less when we’re not teammates.
Craig Dahl on Cortland Finnegan

Editor's note: The video embedded in this article is from June 12, when Craig Dahl told reporters why the Rams were able to have success against the 49ers in 2012.

St. Louis Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan does not care to rehash a Twitter rift with former teammate Craig Dahl.

But in a conference call with Bay Area reporters on Tuesday, Finnegan said he would not be shaking hands before the game with Dahl, now a special-teams player and backup safety with the 49ers.

“Absoluely not,” Finnegan said. “Come on, man. This is this not a movie. We don’t have a fairy tale.”

However, Finnegan said after the game will be a different story.

“Always,” Finnegan said. "I’m always about that. That’s water under the bridge. Before, no; after, yes.”

On June 12, Dahl provided insight to reporters who cover the 49ers on why the Rams matched up well against the 49ers last season. Dahl started all 16 games at safety for St. Louis in 2012. He said the 49ers were telegraphing their plays based on formation and personnel groupings. The Rams tied the 49ers at Candlestick Park before winning in overtime in St. Louis.

"We had a few tips off of film that we were able to differentiate between run and pass early," Dahl said. "So that kind of gave us an added benefit on defense. It was a few different things. Some different personnel and alignment stuff really were the big keys, as far as our giveaways."

Later that day, Finnegan wrote on Twitter: “Craig Dahl we know how you play thanks for the tips we know who to attack early and often." He followed that up with another post on the social media site: "Craig Dahl is lame and weak for that glad he with another squad."

When asked about it on Tuesday, Finnegan told Bay Area reporters, “I think that’s well-documented. We all know how I feel about that. . . You can go back to the archives, babe.”

When asked about Finnegan, Dahl said, “I’m fine with him. I don’t have a problem with him. You have to understand that he’s a comical guy and we razzed each other when we were teammates. I don’t expect anything less when we’re not teammates.”
