I’ve been wearing the cleats because we’ve won every time I’ve worn the cleats. So there was a time I was superstitious about not being superstitious. Now, I’m suddenly superstitious a little bit.

SAN FRANCISCO – Coach Jim Harbaugh, as part of his game-day routine, is seen throwing and catching passes during pre-game warmups.

Now, he’s also wearing cleats on the sideline to help him perform better if he’s called upon during games . . . as a peace-maker.

“The first thing that prompted it was that scuffle I was trying to break up in Tennessee,” Harbaugh said on Monday. “I had no traction.

“Didn’t want to be in that position again.”

Harbaugh nearly tumbled to the ground as he tried to pull Titans safety Bernard Pollard away from 49ers left tackle Joe Staley during a skirmish along the 49ers sideline.

Harbaugh said he wore them for the 49ers’ next game in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But he returned to his normal coaching footwear when the 49ers faced Carolina and New Orleans in the next two games.

“I’ve been wearing the cleats because we’ve won every time I’ve worn the cleats,” he said. “So there was a time I was superstitious about not being superstitious. Now, I’m suddenly superstitious a little bit.”
