Hometown: Colin Kaepernick
CSN Bay Area's Mindi Bach took a trip to Colin Kaepernick's hometown of Turlock, Calif. to take a look back at the 49ers' starting quarterback's roots.
Turns out the second-year quarterback has been a household name there. The second-year pro athlete already has meals and drinks in his namesake, and has left a lasting footprint in town.
Choosing to attend the then new Pittman High School in Turlock instead of Turlock High, Kaepernick arguably became the new school's sports icon, leading football, basketball and baseball teams to playoff appearances. In addition, he left a lasting mark on coaches and teachers that showed what his ultimate goal was: winning.
"He created a legacy and culture here that is a very accepting culture," said Rod Hollars, the Pitman Principal. "He has been nothing short of the kind of culture you would want at a high school because they were good students; academics first, and they were just great kids."
