Injury report: 49ers' Buckner ruled out vs Cardinals

Rookie defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, as expected, will not be available for the 49ers’ game Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals, the club announced Wednesday.

Buckner sustained a left foot injury in the closing minutes of the 49ers’ 24-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Buckner wore an orthopedic boot this week and was unable to practice.

Buckner, the 49ers’ No. 7 overall pick, started the first four games of the season. He was credited with 15 tackles.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman was also listed as out on the 49ers’ injury report. Bowman is likely to be placed on injured reserve on Thursday to create a roster spot for Aaron Lynch, who is eligible to return from a four-game suspension.

Cornerback Jimmie Ward will be out for his second game due to a right quadriceps strain. Ward is expected to be out of action four to six week from when he was injured covering a kickoff against Seattle on Sept. 25.

Cardinals’ starting quarterback Carson Palmer will not be available after sustaining a concussion Sunday in a 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Backup quarterback Drew Stanton will make his 13th career start, and his first since the 2014 season.
