Injury report: Dial sits out 49ers' practice; Martin returns

SANTA CLARA -– Defensive tackle Quinton Dial, who started the 49ers’ first 15 games, sat out Wednesday’s practice with a back strain that forced him out of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.

The 49ers (4-11) close out the regular season on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams (7-8) at Levi’s Stadium.

Linebacker Michael Wilhoite did not practice due to a high-ankle sprain that has sidelined him since Dec. 6. He is not expected to be available for Sunday's game.

Offensive lineman Marcus Martin returned to limited practice after missing one game with a concussion.

Earlier in the day, the 49ers placed running back Shaun Draughn on injured reserve with a knee injury and claimed tight end Je’Ron Hamm off waivers.
