TAMPA, Fla. – Pro Bowl guard Mike Iupati will miss his fourth consecutive games with a knee injury, while cornerback Tarell Brown was cleared to return to the lineup.
Iupati was announced as one of the 49ers’ seven inactive players for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Iupati returned to limited practice in the days leading up to the game. Rookie tight end Vance McDonald is out with an ankle sprain.
He did not appear to be moving at full speed while taking part in a workout with the team’s practice-squad players two hours before kickoff at Raymond James Stadium. Iupati sustained a partially torn MCL in his left knee on Nov. 17 against the New Orleans Saints.
Veteran Adam Snyder will make his fourth consecutive start at left guard in place of Iupati, who is expected to be ready to play next Monday night, Dec. 23, against the Atlanta Falcons.
Cornerback Tramaine Brock started the past three games in place of Brown, who sustained an internal injury Nov. 17. Brown took part in limited practices the past two weeks.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said this week that Brown would be slowly worked back into the action.
With McDonald out of action, Garrett Celek, who missed four games with a hamstring strain, and Derek Carrier will be used at tight end behind starter Vernon Davis.
