A year ago, the 49ers welcomed quarterback Nate Montana -- son of 49ers legend Joe -- to the team’s practice facility for the team’s local pro day of draft-eligible prospects.

On Friday, Jerry Rice Jr. is scheduled to take part in the workout for draft elible players with Bay Area ties.

The 49ers did not offer a contract to Montana after his participation in the local pro day, as well as other tryouts during rookie gatherings. And Jerry Rice Jr. faces tough odds, as well.

Rice Jr., who was listed last season at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, finished his college career at UNLV after spending four years with UCLA, where he caught nine passes in three seasons as a walk-on. In his one season at UNLV, Rice Jr. caught 11 passes for 86 yards, including his only college touchdowns in his final game -- the Heart of Dallas Bowl against North Texas.

Four quarterbacks are scheduled to attend the pro day, led by San Jose State’s David Fales. It is not known whether he plans to take part in on-field drills.

The other three quarterbacks are from the Bay Area, but attended colleges elsewhere: Joe Southwick (Boise State), Cory Murphy (Delaware State) and Austyn Carta-Samuels (Vanderbilt).
