Jets WR Marshall: ‘I don't want Kaepernick; I'm good'

The 49ers are still evaluating the quarterback position for 2016 and beyond, but that hasn't slowed talk about what's going to happen with former starter Colin Kaepernick.

The New York Daily News reported Tuesday that Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco and his top choice for a 2016 destination is the New York Jets.

This development evoked a response a day later from one of the Jets' more established veterans, wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

"I don't wan't Kaepernick," Marshall, who would hypothetically be catching passes from Kaepernick, said Wednesday on national television.

"I think he's good, I think he's good. My guy is [Ryan Fitzpatrick]. My guy is Fitz. It's nothing against Kaepernick. ...I have my quarterback, so I'm good."

Fitzpatrick in 2015 threw for 3,905 yards and 31 touchdowns, and led the Jets to a 10-6 record.

The 33-year-old quarterback is a free agent.

There figure to be plenty of teams interested in acquiring Kaepernick, should he be made available, including the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos.

But the 49ers are the only team that controls the situation. After all, Kaepernick remains under contract to the 49ers through the 2020 season. And 49ers CEO Jed York recently left the door open, saying Kaepernick can get a fresh start with Chip Kelly and the new 49ers coaching staff.

One thing is for certain: Not every Jets player is keen on the idea of Kaepernick in New York.
