John Harbaugh: Ravens talking about Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick, who experienced his most NFL success under Jim Harbaugh, is on the mind of John Harbaugh, Jim’s older brother.

John Harbaugh, coach of the Baltimore Ravens, could be in the market for a quarterback with the possibility Joe Flacco could miss significant time during training camp with a back injury.

Harbaugh told the Baltimore-area media on Thursday that Kaepernick, who remains a free agent, is in the discussion to join the team. Kaepernick has remained a free agent since opting out of his contract with the 49ers in March.

“I’ve known Colin through my brother for many years,” John Harbaugh said. “And we've talked and then got to know him very well when he scrimmaged here. He and I have been talking throughout the summer a number of times. We had some great conversations on the phone and it’s really been a pleasure to talk to him and get to know him. I like history and politics, too, and we’ve had some debates, and it’s been fun.

“And he’s a great guy. He’s a guy right now that’s being talked about. We’ll just see what happens with that. Only speculation right now. He’s a really good football player and as I said at the owners' meetings, I do believe he’ll be playing in the National Football League this year.”

Harbaugh added, "I don’t think that’s different for us than any other team. We’re definitely going to get another arm in here. But he’s not an arm, obviously. He’s an accomplished football player and we always like having good football players around."

Kaepernick visited with the Seattle Seahawks in May. The Seahawks opted to sign Austin Davis instead of Kaepernick.

Kaepernick, 29, completed 59.2 percent of his pass attempts for the 49ers last season with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. His passer rating of 90.7 was his best since the 2013 season.
