The Los Angeles City Attorney's office has requested more information from law enforcement before determining whether to file formal charges against 49ers star player Aldon Smith.
Smith faces a possible misdemeanor charge of making a false report of a bomb threat, stemming from an incident on April 13 at the Los Angeles International Airport.
“We want to do our due diligence to make sure no stone is left unturned,” said Frank Mateljan of the City Attorney’s office on Tuesday. “We’re waiting on that follow-up from law enforcement. When all the information is in, we’ll have a better picture of what actually went down and we’ll be able to make the decision after that.”
In a separate matter, a hearing in Santa Clara Superior Court was scheduled for Tuesday as Smith faces felony charges of possession of illegal assault weapons as well as a misdemeanor DUI charge.
