SANTA CLARA – Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch did not just maintain his physical condition during his four-week suspension to open the regular season.

Lynch said he lost 30 pounds during his absence and figures to be available for the 49ers’ game Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals -- the first game for which he has been eligible this season.

“We’ll only know Thursday if I’m in game-ready shape,” Lynch said.

Lynch admitted that he lost 30 pounds from the end of the exhibition season to this point. His weight is down to a manageable 270 pounds, he said.

When CSNBayArea.com asked Lynch why he was 30 pounds overweight during training camp, Lynch said he lost focus on his caloric intake while his wife was expecting the couple’s first child.

“My wife got pregnant, so I was eating a lot,” Lynch said. “I wasn’t careful with my diet. I was eating whatever. And out of nowhere, my weight went up and I felt it on the field, so I had to get it down.”

Lynch, who recorded 12.5 sacks in his first two NFL seasons, served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on substances of abuse. Lynch said he has a renewed perspective on life with the birth of baby boy Messiah Nathaniel Lynch on Wednesday.

“I’ve taken strides to be a better person because I have a son now,” Lynch said. “So I’ve got to be a good role model.”
