Offensive tackle Jonathan Martin passed his physical on Thursday and, officially, became a member of the 49ers.

Martin was acquired on Tuesday in a trade with the Miami Dolphins for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2015 draft. If Martin is not on the 49ers’ 53-man opening-day roster, the 49ers will not owe the Dolphins any compensation.

“Any time we acquire a player we give him a clean slate, along with every opportunity to demonstrate his value to our organization, both on the field and in the community,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. “It will be no different in Jonathan’s case. As a former Stanford student-athlete, we are very familiar with Jonathan and look forward to working with him.”
