For the first time since the 2011 season, the 49ers and Seahawks will not face each other during prime time when the heated NFC West rivals meet in Week 14 at Candlestick Park.
The NFL announced the Carolina at New Orleans game has been flexed to Sunday Night Football on NBC, Dec. 8. The 49ers-Seahawks game will remain on FOX-TV at its original 1:25 p.m. time slot.
The clubs met earlier this season on Sunday night. FOX utilized a “block” to keep the 49ers-Seahawks on their network in their late-season meeting. The teams had two prime-time matchups last season. They were featured on the NFL Network (Thursday) and NBC (Sunday night).
The 49ers have two remaining scheduled prime-time games: Monday night at Washington, and Monday, Dec. 23, against Atlanta in the final regular-season game in Candlestick history.
The 49ers could be flexed to Sunday night for their game at the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 19. Currently, the 49ers and Cardinals are battling for a spot in the NFC playoffs. If the game is in line to have playoff implications, the game could be moved to the national stage on NBC.
