Privacy has been the rule in the relationship between 49ers defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha and actress Kerry Washington. The NFL star and the star of ABC's hit drama Scandal quietly married on June 24, but the famous couple may not be as successful concealing their latest development.
Multiple entertainment outlets are reporting Washington, 36, and Asomugha, 32, are expecting their first child.
"Kerry and Nnamdi are ecstatic," a source told People Magazine in its online celebrity baby blog. According to People, the baby is due in late spring.
Washington, who portrays political aide and crisis specialist Olivia Pope on the popular show, has seen her career soar and the spotlight has never been brighter on her personal life. But the actress has taken a very protective stance in regard to her relationships, telling Glamour magazine, “I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life.”
Asomugha, a first-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Cal, joined the 49ers in April, signing a one-year deal following two somewhat disappointing seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. But after securing the No. 3 cornerback spot during training camp, the four-time Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection has seen his playing time dwindle to nothing in recent weeks. Asomugha was a healthy scratch for the team's past four games and it's possible he may be cut before the 49ers return from their bye for a Week 10 game against the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 10 at Candlestick Park.
Asomugha and Washington managed to date outside the spotlight and stun celebrity followers four months ago when they secretly wed in Hailey, Idaho.
