Donte Whitner was released by the Browns on April 2, 2016. And now the hard-hitting free-agent safety is garnering interest.

Whitner, who was a two-time Pro Bowler over three years in San Francisco, is taking a visit with the 49ers' division rival Los Angeles Rams, according to multiple reports.

The 30-year-old defensive back on Sunday posted a photo on Twitter of a plane ticket from Miami to Los Angeles.

It was later reported by Pro Football Talk and NFL Network that Whitner was indeed visiting the Rams.

Whitner, a former first-round pick out of Ohio State, has accrued 10 seasons in the NFL with three different teams.

His best years, individually and on a team, were with the 49ers under former coach Jim Harbaugh, who signed Whitner in his inaugural season in 2011.

With San Francisco, Whitner racked up five interceptions, one pick-six, 169 tackles, one forced fumble and five fumble recoveries. His signature play was arguably the hit on Saints running back Pierre Thomas in the 2011 NFC Divisional game at Candlestick Park, in which the 49ers won 36-32.
