CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Veteran cornerback Carlos Rogers is inactive for the 49ers’ second consecutive playoff game due to a right hamstring strain.

Rogers, who had not missed a start in his first three seasons with the 49ers, has not practiced since sustaining the injury in the 49ers’ regular-season final against the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 29.

Tarell Brown and Tramaine Brock will start at cornerback for the 49ers on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs. Perrish Cox is slated to take over the nickel back duties. He will mostly be matched against Panthers slot receiver Brandon LaFell in passing situations.

Meanwhile, Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is active and will play after missing the regular-season finale with a knee injury. Smith was Carolina’s second-leading receiver during the regular season with 64 catches for 745 yards and four touchdowns.
