Scout wins award; 49ers try out tight end

Reggie Cobb, who scouts the Western region for the 49ers, has been named NFC Scout of the Year by the Fritz Pollard Alliance.

Cobb will be honored, along with other award winners, at the Fritz Pollard Alliance's Ninth Annual Awards Reception on February 24 in Indianapolis. The FPA was organized for the purposes of promoting diversity and equality of job opportunity in the coaching, front office and scouting staffs of NFL teams.

"I have had the great privilege of working with Reggie while with the 49ers and the Redskins," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said. "Reggie's hard work, loyalty and professionalism are qualities I have always appreciated. It is very fitting for him to be recognized in this fashion." Cobb joined the team in 2009. He spent the previous six years scouting the Southwest region for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, after two seasons (2001-02) as a member of the Redskins scouting department. Cobb was a running back in the NFL for seven seasons after entering the league as a second-round pick of the Buccaneers in 1990. He also played for Green Bay (1994), Jacksonville (1995) and the N.Y. Slate spent the past two training camps with the Kansas City Chiefs. He caught four passes for 64 yards with a touchdown, and was among the Chiefs' final cuts. He ended last season on Kansas City's practice squad.Walker sustained a fractured jaw in the 49ers' Dec. 24 game at Seattle. He remains on the 49ers' 53-man roster.Around the league, former 49ers linebacker Scott McKillop signed a future contract for 2012 with the Buffalo Bills, and ex-49ers safety Curtis Taylor signed with the Raiders.
