I’m playing this year. That’s all I’m focused on. I feel healthy compared to last year. I feel a lot better than I did last year.
Justin Smith

SANTA CLARA – Defensive lineman Justin Smith underwent offseason surgery to repair shoulder damage he sustained in camp a year ago, he said Wednesday.

Smith, 34, who enters his 14th NFL season, said he was limited throughout the season. He still managed to play in all 19 games, including the playoffs.

He spent the offseason rehabbing from the surgery and did not take part in any on-field drills during the offseason program.

Smith is signed through 2015, but he said this is the stage in his career when he is taking it one year at a time.

“I’m playing this year. That’s all I’m focused on,” Smith said upon reporting to training camp. “I feel healthy compared to last year. I feel a lot better than I did last year. This is it. This is the one I’m thinking about.”
